We recently celebrated Caroline’s first birthday and I was determined to make it a sweet, girly-girl party. It seems like once your kids reach the age of 2 or 3, they are begging for an Elmo- or Dora-themed birthday party, so I figured I might as well take advantage of the fact that at 1, they really could care less. I started browsing the internet months in advance in an attempt to figure out every last detail! In all of the gorgeous photos I found online, they all contained the most beautiful floral arrangements.
Who are these people that can afford multiple fresh floral arrangements? I decided to try my hand at my own and they turned out beautifully! Here’s what I did:
1. Get Vases
Now, you can get vases pretty much anywhere (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart) but in order to save money, visit Goodwill 2-3 weeks before your event (1/2 priced Saturdays are the best!) and pick up vases. I am a fan of the round or square vases. They usually range in price from 99 cents to $5.99, depending on the size. I would recommend vases without wide mouths, otherwise you are going to need a LOT of flowers. Stick to vases with openings that are 6 inches or less. Here’s two of the vases I used:
2. Get Inspired Online
Browse Pinterest and the internet for ideas on what you want your floral arrangements to look like. I searched “pink and white floral arrangements” and got so many ideas for what I wanted mine to look like. Here’s one of the finished arrangements from the party:
3. Shop Around
A few days before your event, stop in your local Kroger or Marsh and get an idea of what fresh flowers they have on hand. Again, before you go, make sure you have an idea what you want your arrangements to look like! You don’t need to find the exact flowers necessarily, just color! Keep in mind that you want not only to purchase flowers, but also to purchase filler (such as leaves, berries, baby’s breath, etc.).
4. Purchase & Arrange
The day BEFORE your event, purchase the flowers you want. Cut your stems and arrange your flowers just the way you want them. Put them in a cool space until your event. Everyone will think they were professionally arranged!
When all was said and done, I had around $14.00 in vases (I purchased 10 vases) and $65.00 in flowers. So for $80.00, I had ten vases of gorgeous flowers which were used as decoration (and flowers for the cake), and I was able to send ten of our guests home with a gorgeous arrangement!
I appreciate you!
